Are you ready for the latest in injectables? SCBD is excited to introduce Kybella to our clients that are concerned with fat under their chin, otherwise known as a double chin or submental fat. We thought you might want to know a little bit about this newest injectable before you jump into the treatment chair.
What is Kybella made of?:
Kybella is a synthetic form of Deoxycholic Acid, a naturally occurring molecule that helps metabolize dietary fat.
How does it work?:
It essentially bursts the fat cells under the chin, your body will then metabolize it as normal. It is not meant to tighten any extra skin, although some people who have had Kybella say that they experienced some tightening. It’s a great non-surgical alternative for anyone looking to get rid of their double chin, as it leaves your jawline looking more contoured.
Who can get Kybella?:
Anyone with pinchable fat under the chin. It’s also preferred that they have good quality skin. It’s recommended that you see one of our nurses to determine if you are a good candidate.
Who CANNOT get Kybella?:
Those who have excess skin under the chin. Any woman who is pregnant or breastfeeding. Be sure to check with one of our nurses to see if the treatment is right for you.
How many treatments will I need?:
Usually around 2-6 sessions will be needed. Men will typically need more treatments than women. The nurse will usually give 12-20 injections per session. The appointments usually last around 20 minutes. Sessions are usually about a month apart.
What are the side effects?:
After your injections you may experience redness, bruising, discomfort, temporary numbness or areas of hardness. Most patients will experience swelling in the area of the injections. It usually takes 2-3 days to heal after the injections were given.
Is it permanent?:
Yes, it’s permanent in that the existing fat cells are destroyed, BUT new ones can emerge with weight gain.
Can I have Kybella injected into other areas of my body?:
It’s currently only FDA approved for under the chin, but if you did inject it into other areas, it would require a lot more product to receive any significant result.
Our nurses would be happy to answer any further questions you might have about this exciting new treatment! Come in or call today for your Kybella consultation.
